UN denounces Bush interference in China
Beijing, China (November 20, 2005) – UN General Secretary Kofi Annan vehemently protested against the Bush administration’s "interference in internal affairs" of its key member-state China. President Bush, however, undeterred by critics aboard and at home, continued to push for freedom and democracy in his official visit to China this week. “It is important that social, political and religious freedoms grow in China and we encourage China to continue making the historic transition to greater freedom,” President Bush said in a speech in Beijing. “It’s the UN, not the USA, who has the moral leadership to lead the world in freedom and democracy,” Mr. Konan insisted. He reminded the public that the UN Commission for Human Rights is organizing a comprehensive China Human Rights Conference, tentatively scheduled for December 22- 29, 2005 at the luxury ski resort Davos in Switzerland, to "work on serious problems" in this region.
