Berlin (December 10, 2005) – Amusing stuff from Germany about Iran’s plan to send the Jewish State Israel to Austria or Germany. The left-wing weekly magazine Der Spiegel published an essay caustically suggesting “Give the Jews the German state of Schleswig-Holstein.” The analysis provided one interesting paragraph: “The Middle-East conflict is not only the collateral damage of the Holocaust, but it is the product of the European anti-Semitism. Without the pogrom in Poland and Russia, the Dreyfus scandal in France, and the German attempt to reach the “final solution” for the Jewish question, the Jews would still dream of their own state, instead of having to defend it.”
Another development shows how fast Germany has caught up with the US. Less than a month after leaving office, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder entered the revolving door to make big money in the international industry. The former left-wing German Chancellor will become the Chairman and CEO of the Pipeline-Consortium NEGP. This company will build the new gas pipeline which goes under the Baltic Sea and connects Russia and Germany directly. As Chancellor at the time, Mr. Schröder was the key architect of this German-Russian business deal. Ethical standards have probably not been under consideration at this time.
Last but not least, the World Cup 2006 in Germany is getting in gear: Yesterday's drawing puts Germany in the easy group A with Costa Rica, Poland and Ecuador, while the US team in the more difficult group E. Together with Ghana, they have to fight two European soccer powers Italy and the Czech Republic.
