Washington DC (October 25, 2005) – Four weeks before one of the biggest national holidays, President Bush is considering canceling Thanksgiving because of the looming avian flu pandemic, a senior administration official close to the White House said today. The bird flu has widened its presence in more European countries in the last few days, with Sweden being the latest where the lethal avian flu was identified in a dead duck near Stockholm last weekend. According to unconfirmed reports, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a preliminary recommendation “No Turkey for Thanksgiving” this year, a measure that has as expected gained approval from the pro-animal, activist organization PETA.
