McCain ready for active Iraq duty

Washington DC (November 12, 2005) – Following up on his Iraq speech at the American Enterprise Institute on Thursday, Senator John McCain once again demanded more American troops for the Iraq theater. While he admired President Bush’s resolve and expressed enormous admiration for Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, Senator McCain insisted that in order to gain and sustain “control over the Iraqi insurgency,” more Americans troops are needed in Iraq. This stands in strong contrast to Democrats’ call for troop withdrawal. Sources close to the inner circle of the White House indicated that Senator McCain, a former Naval Aviation officer, was considering a return to active duty in Iraq if asked by President Bush. Rumors that Senator McCain would take over the command of CENTCOM by Thanksgiving could not be confirmed independently.
