Republican Majority: Lost in Disarray

Washington DC (November 11, 2005) – If a Martian landed today in Washington DC, he wouldn’t know that there is a Republican Majority, supposedly in control of the power centers of the only superpower nation of the world. Republican Bush won the presidency convincingly last year by a clear margin 51% to 48%. The Republicans also controlled both houses of the US Congress, 232 to 207 in the House and 55 to 45 in the Senate. In reality, the Republicans let the opposition control the agenda. Less Americans support the Iraq war now, even though the Iraq has moved steadily toward a democratic society. Less Americans support Republican economic policy, even though the economy has been growing robustly with constantly diminishing unemployment rates and smaller budget deficits. Social security reform, tax cut, spending cuts, and ANWR drilling are effectively stalled by Republican self-inflicting chickenhearted actions. If they want to regain the momentum and beat the Democrats in 2006 elections, the Republicans should stop act out of weakness and stop appease political opponents. They should fight back hard on every controversial issues, and decisively push forward their policy on all fronts with boldness and confidence. But as it looks right now, do not hold your breath.
Update: As if he had read this blog, President Bush came out swinging today with a strong speech fighting back Democrats' current campaign on Iraq war revisionism.
