American Politics: Quo Vadis?

Nanortalik, Greenland (October 29, 2005) – In the aftermath of the collapse of Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination and the indictment of Lewis Libby, the Vice President’s Chief of Staff, a new study by the reputable “International Center for Advanced Studies of American Affairs,” based in Nanortalik, Greenland, provided a sobering and disturbing image of American politics today. The national electorate was extremely polarized with a so vitriolic intensity that a “civil political discourse is practically impossible” in America today, the study began. The personal name-calling has replaced the in-depth policy debate; the coarse and crude language from the fringe Left has become the official voice of the mainstream Democratic leaders like Senator Kennedy, Senator Kerry, former Vice President Gore and the Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean. The opposition Left solely used rhetoric instead of policy because “they cannot be honest about what they believe in”, the study continued. Instead to provide specific alternative policy for the national electorate to choose from, the opposition Left has tried to win by “criminalizing political opponents” as the recent indictment of Republican House Majority leader Tom DeLay and Vice President adviser Lewis Libby indicated. Even the judicial process is politicized, with judges legislating from the bench, bypassing the will of the elected Congress. The governing Right, on the other hand, seemed to be “drunken from the arrogance of power” derived from substantial electoral victories in 2000, 2002 and 2004. They overplayed their cards in the Harriet Miers nomination, the rebellion instigated by the conservative pundits and talking heads has led to a conservative “Selbstzerfleischung” and lasting demotivation of their electoral base. In the remaining three years of the Bush presidency, “things will get worse, unless a national catastrophe like the 9/11 happens again,” the study concluded. When asked to comment on this study, Senator Harry Reid, D-Nevada, responded “Such a crap! What do these Eskimos know about America?”
