Former president Carter dismisses Iraq referendum

Atlanta (October 15, 2005) – In a press release issued on the day of the Iraqi constitutional referendum, former president Jimmy Carter explained that Iraq is the product of an “unnecessary and unjust war” and does not deserve his time and attention. He would rather spend his unique “election observation skills” to certify and celebrate “real democracies” like he did for Venezuela in August 2004 and most recently for Liberia early this month. This weekend, Mr. Carter plans to stay home and to start knitting a real heavy 100 % natural wool sweater in anticipation of the looming energy crisis in Georgia this coming winter.
