Five years ago: Bush v. Gore SCOTUS decision

Washington DC (December 12, 2005) – Five years ago on this day, the US Supreme Court decided the case Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000) in favor of Bush and practically made him the 43rd president of the United States. Contrary to the mainstream media myth, it was a clear decision.

The critical Equal Protection finding that “using different standards of counting in different areas was unconstitutional” was approved by an overwhelming 7 to 2 decision. In support were Breyer, Souter, Kennedy, O’Connor, Rehnquist, Scalia and Thomas while Ginsburg and Stevens opposed.

Only the “remedy of ceasing all recounts” was approved by a closer 5 to 4 vote. In support were Kennedy, O’Connor, Rehnquist, Scalia and Thomas while Souter, Breyer, Ginsburg and Stevens dissented.
